MALDIVES 2020

The Training Workshop “Marine Spatial Planning: an experience in the Maldives” was the first training workshop of the MSP Tropical Edition and was ideated and organized by the Marine Planners Group with the collaboration of the Planning Climate Change Lab of the University Iuav of Venice and the MaRHE Center of the University of Milano Bicocca. Thanks to the multidisciplinarity entailed in the organizing team, it was possible to enrich the training workshop by presenting the Marine Spatial Planning topic from different perspectives and to propose diverse thematic supporting a real MSP simulation exercise.

This multidisciplinary approach made it possible to address the training workshop to a broad target of participants at all level of professional careers and coming from different experiences and fields of work and study (e.g. planners, biologist, architects, GIS experts, oceanographers).

The training lasted 7 days, from the 15th to the 23rd of January, and was held on the island of Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll, Maldives. All the activities and participants were hosted by the MaRHE center and the workshop was structured in lectures, group work session, field trips, snorkelling and cultural activities.
